What We Can Treat

Depending on suitability (confirmed during consultation), light and laser treatments may help with:

Red and vascular lesions

  • Cherry angiomas (small red “blood spots”)

  • Broken capillaries / facial vessels

  • Spider veins (small superficial vessels)

  • General facial redness and flushing that sits in the skin

Pigmented lesions and discolouration

  • Sun spots / solar lentigines

  • Melasma

  • Freckles (when treatment is appropriate)

  • Uneven pigmentation and patchy tone

  • Post-inflammatory marks (certain lingering discoloration after breakouts/irritation)

Raised benign lesions

  • Skin tags (where appropriate for device-based treatment)

  • Seborrheic keratoses (depending on type and suitability)

Important: We only treat lesions that appear suitable and benign. If anything looks uncertain, we’ll recommend medical assessment before proceeding.

How it Works

Laser and light-based skin lesion treatments work by delivering controlled energy into the lesion while preserving the surrounding skin. At Southern Ridge Studio, we carefully select the most appropriate technology, Zenith Nova IPL, Zenith Alpha IPL, or Zenith Excelsior Nd:YAG based on the lesion type, depth, colour, and your skin type.

Targeted Light Energy

Different skin lesions contain specific targets within the skin, such as pigment (melanin) or blood (hemoglobin). Laser and IPL devices emit precise wavelengths of light that are selectively absorbed by these targets without affecting healthy tissue.

  • Pigmented lesions absorb light energy into melanin

  • Vascular lesions absorb light energy into hemoglobin

Once absorbed, the energy gently heats the lesion, breaking it down in a controlled manner.

Prep & Aftercare

Preparation

  • A consultation is required to assess the lesion and confirm suitability for laser or IPL treatment.

  • The treatment area must be clean and free from makeup, lotions, or self-tan.

  • Sun exposure should be avoided 2 weeks prior to treatment, as tanned skin may increase sensitivity.

  • Any suspicious or uncertain lesions will require medical assessment before treatment.

During Treatment

  • Protective eyewear is provided for safety.

  • The device delivers short, controlled pulses of light directly into the lesion. The light is selectively absorbed by pigment or blood within the lesion, while surrounding skin remains protected.

  • The absorbed energy converts to heat, damaging the lesion’s structure in a controlled way. This causes the lesion to break down or collapse without physically removing surrounding tissue.

  • Depending on the lesion type, you may notice immediate changes such as darkening, blanching, or slight swelling. These are normal and indicate that the treatment has effectively targeted the lesion.

  • Sensation is typically brief and well tolerated, often described as a quick warming or snapping feeling.

Treatment time is usually short, depending on the size and number of lesions being treated.

Aftercare

  • Treated areas may darken, crust, or lightly scab—this is a normal part of the healing process.

  • Keep the area clean and dry, and avoid picking or scratching.

  • Sun protection is essential while the skin heals to reduce the risk of pigmentation changes.

  • Healing times vary by lesion type and location, with most areas improving over days to weeks.
